The attached information is based on statements read aloud at April’s PASD School Board Meeting. The statements were vague and some of it was inaccurate. And because the vote you make directly impacts hundreds of students and their families, it is imperative that you have all the information about the negotiations that have been going on since July 29, 2022, and the data we have given to the district’s administration.
In the following documents, we will support the following facts:
Fact #1 Gillingham Charter School is well within the certification requirements.
Fact #2 The majority of Gillingham Charter School students are Schuylkill County students.
Fact #3 Gillingham Charter School currently has only one open teaching position.
Fact #4 Gillingham’s attendance rate is similar to Pottsville Area School District’s.
Fact #5 The additional factors listed by the board’s president on April 16 were not an issue in the final charter proposal presented by PASD.
Fact #6 The State Charter School Appeal Board granted Gillingham’s initial charter and its renewal charter. However, we would prefer to see education funds spent on education and not legal fees, which is why Gillingham has negotiated in good faith to reach an agreement with PASD.
